* amended upwards, as we keep hearing about other boxes that are coming in late
We can’t thank you enough, if you were involved at all in this, whether you gave a box or more, organised others to give, allowed your place of business or school to be a Collection Point, let us have free or half price vans, did printing for us, helped us with publicity, or came out on the vans with us. You will be making a huge difference to the poorest families in Cornwall this Christmas.
We collected all the boxes on Tuesday 11 December, and delivered them to Cornwall Council offices, plus the Noah Project in Newquay, Food for Families in Penzance, and the Hain Project and Salvation Army in St Ives, where they were very gratefully received. All these groups work with vulnerable and impoverished families, the poorest in Cornwall, and you really make a difference to their lives, as they are given out between now and Christmas.
We hear many wonderful stories about how doing this has impacted those giving, and the trouble and effort people have gone to in order to help out those less fortunate. Thank you all so much for your involvement, and watch this space for more stories from this year.
The point of Cornwall Christmas Box is to make Christmas better for people in Cornwall, and we love that you want to help us do that. Thank you.
We were the Charity Partners for the Bedruthan Christmas Fair, on 24 and 25 November, where we spoke to dozens of people, and hopefully encouraged them to make boxes. Nice to meet you, if we saw you there!
We were given a free copy of some awesome route-planning software by the lovely people at Maxoptra. This helped us plot a course round 37 Collection Points and 11 Drop-off points, with 5 vans, which we were starting to worry about!
CHRISTMAS DINNER IN A BOX!
DONATE FOOD FOR A FAMILY OF 4 – 6 TO CELEBRATE THIS CHRISTMAS
Christmas Dinner in a box for the poorest families in Cornwall.
Each box contains enough food for Christmas dinner with all the extra little goodies, treats like mince pies and biscuits, and of course Christmas pudding – which all go to make up a feast for a family in need. Due to storage and distribution limitations we can’t accept fresh food but there are plenty of good things to eat that can still be included. A typical box costs around £30-£40 but you can share the cost by getting together with friends, neighbours and colleagues to fill a box together. The boxes will be distributed by Cornwall Council’s ‘Children’s Early Help, Social Care and Psychology Service’ team and some Children’s Centres to families in need.
Following the success of 2017, we will again be delivering to local council offices, so Boxes collected in the Penzance area will go to help families near Penzance, and so on. (Please don’t take the boxes to your local council offices yourself.)
If you have a question, please email us. You can use email@example.com, or get in touch via Facebook or Twitter. Please don’t email to tell us you’re donating, but do drop us a line if you have a question.
A huge thank you to all our Collection Points for 2018. You and your communities were awesome!

If you don’t live in Cornwall and would like to run something like this near your home, we are planning to produce a ‘how to run a Christmas Box scheme’ pack in the New Year. Drop us your details, and we’ll put you on the list to be sent a copy.
Christmas is a time of joy and celebration but for those living on the breadline, Christmas can emphasise the difficulty of their circumstances. For the past 16 years, Truro Vineyard Church have been collecting Christmas dinner boxes to give away through Cornwall Council’s Social Services team to those in need. We hope that these Christmas boxes help people to share in God’s goodness and to celebrate the new hope brought about through Jesus’s birth. As more churches, organisations and groups of friends have joined us in recent years to gather more Christmas boxes, four years ago we have decided to open the opportunity to anyone in Cornwall to donate a box, knowing that it will help to make Christmas better for a family in need. We collected just over 200 boxes in 2014, 120 in 2015, and 257 in 2016. In 2017 we had a target of 300, or 500 if you asked Heather.
We thought she was being ambitious – but you all donated 540 boxes in total, so she was right! For 2018, who knows! We’re not even going to set a target!!
